Dallas-based FFE Transportation is a primary subsidiary of Frozen Food Express Services, a conglomerate which includes Lisa Motor Lines and FFE Logistics. As its name implies, FFE specializes in temperature-controlled truckload services for the foodservice industry, catering to restaurant chains and other endpoints like supermarkets and grocery stores.
The company was founded in the postwar boom of the 1940s when the demand for perishable goods was starting to pick up. With few dedicated temperature-controlled transports to answer the need, founder Cy Weller purchased ex-Army refrigerators and installed them in stock trailers, giving birth to one of the nation’s first civilian reefers.
FFE went public in 1970 and has since expanded fleet by acquiring American Eagle Lines and Lisa Motor Lines. Today, the company is one of the country’s largest refrigerated carriers and has been named by Fortune Magazine as one of the top 200 US companies to work for.
