About Best for Vets Employer in 2019

The Best for Vets Employer in 2019 was recently presented to the military veteran community as a valuable resource. Veterans can use this list to find trucking companies and other businesses as places for employment. What sets these companies apart from other commercial organizations is the added services available to military vets.

According to Derek Leathers, CEO and President for Werner Enterprises, “We are proud to have our nation’s heroes and their families join Werner as professional drivers and associates. We will continue to support those who have sacrificed to serve our country.”

Additional companies on the list of Best for Vets Employer in 2019 include:

  • First Data Corp.
  • Southern Company
  • Comcast NBC Universal
  • Intuitive Research and Technology Corp.
  • USAA Federal Savings Bank
  • Harris County Sheriff’s Office
  • The Exchange (AAFES)
  • Orange County (FL) Sheriff’s Office

As you can see, this is quite the varied list. Among the winning employers for this year, you have both for-profit companies and nonprofit organizations including government agencies. To be ranked alongside these different businesses is a great achievement.

Professional Truck Driver Apprenticeship Program

Veterans who have driving experience in the military often struggle with applying that work history to their CDL and resume. At Werner Enterprises, truck drivers from the military have assistance with the Military Skills Test Waiver. In addition, drivers with Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits can utilize these when enrolled in the Professional Truck Driver Apprenticeship Program.

This apprenticeship program is available to veterans, as well as non-veteran truck driving students. As a military veteran, you are able to add up to $23,714 to the amount you make as a salary with Werner Enterprises. This is tax-free and paid straight to you.

Veteran Tuition Reimbursement Program

You are also able to get money back for your trucking school tuition with the Veteran Tuition Reimbursement Program. This is in addition to the apprenticeship program. You can add $250 a month to your salary with payments to reimburse you up to $15,000 for tuition to trucking school.

This is ideal if you have already gone through trucking school and are repaying a student loan right now while you hunt for trucking jobs. By going through the two truck driver training programs, you can greatly increase your income during the first couple of years as a new truck driver.
