Sampson Community College Strengthens Support for Truck Driving Students

Sampson Community College has bee training Class A and Class B truck drivers since 2006. Located in Clinton, NC, the SCC Truck Driver Training Program prepares individuals for trucking jobs in North Carolina. If you are interested in starting trucking school or getting a CDL, consider the opportunities available to you at Sampson Community College’s Truck Driver Training Program. As the school has recently announced the expansion, it is a great time to get on board with CDL training here.

About SCC Truck Driver Training

The Sampson Community College Truck Driver Training Program provides students with Class A and Class B training. Typically, you want to get a Class A CDL as a trucker since this allows you to cross state lines with freight loads. However, if you are under 21 you will only be permitted to get a Class B CDL. Both CDL classes are available at SCC via an 11-week long daytime program Monday to Friday. For student drivers who work during the day, the school also offers a 16-week class that meets on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday evenings.

The total training for either day or weekend attendees is 350 hours of training. This is one of the most intensive amounts of behind the wheel and classroom training that schools offer truck drivers. This is great news for truck drivers who want to learn everything they can to be safe behind the wheel while taking over the road trucking jobs. Along with defensive driving and trip planning, SCC teaches student drivers about the general operation, hours of service rules, FMCSA regulations, and maneuvering. You gain everything you need to be a successful truck driver in North Carolina.

$100,000 Investment into Training

Recently the college received some outstanding news. The Cannon Foundation established by the Cannon Mills Company has made a donation of $100,000 for the SCC Truck Driver Training Program. This money will go to help pay for a new truck driver training facility for the program.

Regarding the new facility and the donation from the foundation, Sampson Community College’s Dean of Workforce Development and Continuing Education Amanda Bradshaw said, “We are thankful for Cannon’s support of the program as we work to provide a nationally recognized training program that meets industry needs. This partnership is truly special for Fred, as it brings his story full circle. He fondly remembers his first driving job with Cannon Mills in Kannapolis.”

According to Dr. Bill Starling, the president of Sampson Community College, “On behalf of the Trustees and our SCC community, I want to thank The Cannon Foundation for this generous gift in support of our effort to construct truck driving training facilities here in our county. This gift is a visible acknowledgment of the Foundation’s support for community-based partnerships that help address the state’s workforce training needs by providing accessible career training opportunities that enhance the quality of life of all North Carolinians. I would also like to applaud the ongoing efforts of Ms. Lisa Turlington, the College’s Dean of Advancement, the SCC Foundation, and other supporters who continue to help develop resources in support of the College’s mission.”
