On October 6, 2009, SmartWay Transport announced 37 winners of the 2009 SmartWay Excellence Awards at the American Trucking Associations Management Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada. These awards recognize freight industry leaders that have made significant contributions to protecting the environment through their participation in the Partnership. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recognizes and awards carriers annually at the ATA’s Management Conference. The Smartway program was introduced in 2004 and it is has done a tremendous job with improving the freight industries environmental performance. The innovative collaboration between EPA and the freight sector is designed to improve energy efficiency, reduce greenhouse gas and air pollutant emissions, and improve energy security. Companies that participate in SmartWay Transport programs save money, reduce fuel consumption and are recognized for their social responsibility and leadership.
