Swift Transportation Fits 40 Percent of Fleet with FlowBelow AeroKits

FlowBelow Technology on displayEvery company wants to cut costs including trucking companies like Swift Transportation. That’s the name of the game. Unfortunately there are some costs that simply can’t be comprised. Take fuel expenses, for instance. This is the largest expense, as well as the least controllable, that any trucking company will have. While companies can’t reduce the cost of diesel, they do have access to technology that allows these companies to be more fuel efficient. Enter the world of FlowBelow AeroKit.

Fuel Efficiency for Truckers

For trucking companies to make their fleet more fuel efficient, they have to come up with ways to streamline a truck. Some areas, such as freight weight, can’t be compromised. In fact, the more freight weighs the more a company gets paid for hauling it. So the company has to focus more on the aerodynamics of a tractor trailer.

Certain areas of a semi create more drag and resistance against wind. As a result, it requires more fuel per mile to move from Point A to Point B. Finding ways to reduce the friction and drag on a truck can be complicated since semis are by their nature large and in charge. One way that has revolutionized fuel efficiency for fleets is by adding an AeroKit by FlowBelow.

FlowBelow AeroKit

The FlowBelow Tractor AeroKit System is used to reduce drag around the wheels of a big rig. This is achieved by adding quick-release wheel covers, as well as four fairings, to the four rear wheels on a tractor. This system cuts down on turbulence and aerodynamics.

  • By placing a FlowBelow AeroKit on a semi the truck is more fuel efficient thanks to less horsepower being used.
  • It can be used for most rigs including dry van and flatbed trailers, as well as reefer and tanker loads.

For trucking companies and owner operators in the trucking industry interested in purchasing a new Freightliner there is an upgrade option for the FlowBelow Tractor AeroKit. You can have it factory installed as part of your purchase. The kit system also works with Kenworth models. When using an AeroKit system the truck driver can continue driving no matter what the weather. Snow, rain, and sleet will not damage the truck’s wheel system, or cause damage to the AeroKit. For the system to work the truck must be going at least 40 mph.

  • The company FlowBelow claims an installed AeroKit will reduce fuel costs by nearly 2.25 percent.

These tests, it should be noted, were conducted by several third parties with more than 300 over the road trucking tests, which hold up to credibility.

Swift and AeroKit in Trucks

Hoping to reduce the bottom line Swift Transportation is installing 7,500 tractors with the Tractor AeroKit. This accounts to 40 percent of the Swift fleet, which includes 18,000 trucks total. As the largest truckload carrier in the US, this is a major step toward fuel efficiency for trucking fleets. If Swift proves to gain traction with this fleet system there is the chance that other trucking companies will follow in suit.

Of course Swift didn’t go into this deal blindly. The company has been testing the FlowBelow AeroKit System since 2014. During that time the company fitted 100 rigs with the kits. This test run was completed to measure the road wear and tear capabilities of the system. It also proved to Swift that increased fuel efficiency would be quite possible with this kit.
